DETECTIVES investigating the murder of a Glasgow man have said they are 'encouraged' by the public's response to an appeal for help to trace the men responsible.

Owen Hassan was attacked by two men in Greenview Street, Shawlands around 10.25pm last Wednesday, minutes after he left the Old Stag Inn, which is owned by his mother.

Exactly a week on, detectives and uniformed officers stopped cars in the area last night, between 10pm and 11pm, in an attempt to glean clues that will help them trace his attackers.

Detective Chief Inspector Martin Fergus of the Major Investigation Team said: “This was a worthwhile exercise and I have been encouraged by the response from the public.

"Around fifty people were spoken to and we are currently assessing the information they provided.

“Our investigation into Owen’s murder is progressing and we have been encouraged by the results of various lines of inquiry including CCTV footage and house to house inquiries.

"The team remain focused on tracing the two men responsible for this crime, but we cannot do it alone.  We need the public’s help.

“Again, I would like to reiterate my appeal to the public for information.  I am sure that there are people who hold details on this murder who have not yet come forward.

"Please don’t wait for the police to visit you at home; do the right thing and come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to call the investigation team through 101 quoting reference number 4167 of 7th November.
