RANGERS have made a formal complaint to the Scottish FA about referee Willie Collum as they step up their fight over Daniel Candeias’ red card in the win over St Mirren

The Portuguese was given a second yellow card in the closing stages of the 2-0 Premiership victory in Paisley earlier this month.

But furious Ibrox chiefs are refusing to let the matter rest after the SFA published the details of the failed appeal against the controversial call this week.

Boss Steven Gerrard labelled the decision ‘embarrassing’ and Rangers have now taken the matter further by officially writing to the Hampden hierarchy.

A spokesperson said: “I can confirm we have sent a formal letter of complaint about the referee's performance in that match. We have nothing else to say at this time.”

Referee Collum has been widely criticised for the decision to book Candieas in the aftermath of the Gers’ second goal, which was scored by Alfredo Morelos.

The SFA released the written judgement of the appeal process on Wednesday and revealed Collum believed Candeias had made ‘gestures towards’ defender Anton Ferdinand.

But Rangers are refusing to accept that explanation and are continuing their fight to clear Candeias’ name after he missed the 7-1 win over Motherwell at the weekend.

It is understood the Light Blues believe all film evidence shows that Collum could not have witnessed any gesturing by Candeias and they will pursue the matter until they have what they believe to be justice for their player.
