SCOTTISH showbiz greats are lining up to support a night to raise funds for a vital charity.

Music legend Ian Henderson arranged the event next Saturday to make people aware of conditions which has affected the lives of two of his great pals the late Lisbon Lion Jimmy Johnstone and DJ Tiger Tim.

Ian, whose friendship with the former Celtic player spanned 40 years, planned the event at Parkhead next Saturday.

Host Elaine C Smith will transport the audience back to the 60s with the Music of the Glory Years of Scottish Football, with the likes of Tiger Tim, the Lisbon Lions and singer Christian all set to appear.

Ian said the night was a way of honouring his final promise to the footballer, whose family have set up the Jimmy Johnstone Tribute Night, to push for further research into motor neuron disease while Tiger Tim suffers from multiple sclerosis.

He said: “I lost my business and my homes, I thought about going back on the drink for the first time in 17 years but I phoned Jimmy and he was there for me.

“It was a struggle but I’ve never forgotten what he did and I’ve never forgotten the vow I made on the night he died.

“It wasn’t a horrible night, we were having a laugh, but the last thing he said to me was ‘try and push MND research because if we find a cause we will maybe, one day, find a cure’.”

The evening extravaganza will include a three-course meal, raffle and auction as well as the opportunity for a photograph to be taken with Celtic’s European Cup from 1967.

Some of the top prizes include the chance to attend a sold-out Amy McDonald gig and a meet and greet with Sir Rod Stewart at his upcoming London concert.

Tickets cost £40 per person and are available via Ticketmaster with proceeds going towards research into the heartbreaking illnesses MND and MS.
