A friend of devoted Celtic supporter and Glasgow man Owen Hassan who was murdered earlier this month has launched an emotional campaign to give the dad-of-three's youngest son a standing ovation at Parkhead.

David Macneill is urging fellow hoops fans to join in a special tribute to the 30-year-old who was attacked in Pollokshaws on November 9.

A dream of the young dad's was to take his youngest son Owen junior to a Celtic game and let him "experience the team spirit", however as he will never be able to do this, his family and a small group of his mates are planning to take the three-year-old to his first game on December 8.

David hopes that his fellow fans will join in a standing ovation in the 30th minute of the match against Kilmarnock to take a moment to remember the tragic man and "restore a little boys smile momentarily during such a difficult time".

Glasgow Times:

In an emotional Facebook post, he said: "A small bunch of Owen’s friends and family would now like to have the honour of bringing Owen Junior aged 3 to his first football match.. and although his daddy may not be present, we know he’ll be there in spirit and we are asking each and every one of you to please show him the team spirit that I know you all have.

"We have asked for a standing ovation for Owen, for his family, friends and for little Owen Junior who will be standing amongst us in the crowd."

The post has been shared more than 1,200 times and flooded with comments praising Owen and the strength of his family.

Heather Duncan wrote: "So sad life can be so cruel rip. And thoughts with his friends and family lets make this happen on the 8th show his wee son why celtic supporters are the best."

Leanne Bolam added: " Cut above the rest and any1 who was blessed enough to know him knew that. He made an impression on every1 he met."

Detectives are still on the hunt for Owen's killers who they believe to be two men.

Owen was attacked by the two men in Greenview Street, Shawlands around 10.25pm, minutes after he left the Old Stag Inn, which is owned by his mother.

Police Scotland's Major Investigation Teams, who are leading the enquiry, however admit that although Shawlands man Owen was the intended target, they have not established a motive for the murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Martin Fergus of the Major Investigation Team, said: "Owen had dinner with a friend at Oro restaurant in Kilmarnock Road, Shawlands and left at 5.30pm on Wednesday, November 7. I am keen to hear from people who were in this restaurant on the afternoon in question, or who may have seen Owen in the Kilmarnock Road area."

He added: "We need to trace the two men who are responsible for the sustained and vicious attack on Owen as a matter of urgency. It is vital that they are held to account for their actions. Owen’s family and friends have been left devastated by this terrible crime.

"We need to establish where Owen went after 5.30pm and who he was with. If you have any information on this please come forward."
