Drivers who witnessed a crash that left a 61-year-old man in a serious condition in hospital are being asked to come forward.

A Mercedes Skip Truck was crashed into the underside of a railway bridge near Carsehead Bridge, Dalry, around 4.10pm on Friday.

The lorry then collided with a BMW car travelling south on the same road.

Emergency services attended the scene and the 61-year-old lorry driver was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he in a stable but serious condition.

The road was closed for several hours to allow crash scene investigators to conduct enquiries at the scene.

Officers are looking anyone who may have seen the lorry on its journey from Ardrossan towards Dalry to contact them.

Enquiries carried out so far have revealed there were several HGVs behind the lorry at the time of the collision that left the scene prior to police arrival.

There was also a man who was wearing a high visibility vest who approached the driver of the lorry at the time of the incident.

Officers are appealing to these people to contact them as they could hold information which could assist the investigation.
