Plans for a major housing development in the South Side have cleared their first hurdle.

Property investors Hansteen Holdings and housebuilder Persimmon Homes have been given planning permission in principle to create up to 200 homes near the M77 in Darnley.

The proposals, which will see a seven-hectare site at Darnley Mains transformed, include a mix of detached, semi-detached and terraced properties.

City chiefs approved the plans despite concerns over flooding and potential pressure on services in the area.

Persimmon has already started building on a plot just minutes from the new application site.

The site sits close to the M77 at Waukglen and Leggatston Road.

As well as the residential properties, there is expected to be parking, green spaces, and a community area.

Two letters of objection have been received which raise concerns about increased pressure being put on schools, doctors and dental practices as well as poor parking provision.

The developers will be required to provide detailed plans in order to gain full planning permission before work can start at the Darnley Mains site.
