GRITTERS have started to move across Glasgow this afternoon as temperatures dip in what is expected to be another freezing winter.

Glasgow City Council confirmed the move was being put in place from noon and urged residents to make use of their local grit bins.

The local authority said: “Given the lower temperatures today, we will be gritting outer footways and footbridges from noon.

The developments come as winter rolls in with icy winds, plummeting temperatures and snow showers set for many parts of Britain, including Scotland.

The first flurries of snow hit high ground on hills in Scotland as November closes with an icy blast.

The Met Office said Glasgow and its surrounding areas can expect a cold week with frequent showers.
