FOOTBALL bosses have brought community groups together to try to tackle problems on match days.

Rangers Managing Director, Stewart Robertson chaired the first meeting of the Club’s Community Forum.

Bosses said the club plays a significant role in the local area and want to minimise any disruption on match days.

Mr Robertson said: “I was pleased to host the first Community Forum and delighted so many local organisations and elected members readily embraced the principle of working collaboratively to improve the environment and facilities in the local community.

“Rangers Football Club already has excellent and well established links with our community, but I am keen to improve all aspects of our interaction.

“That can only be of benefit to all of us and I must say that I was delighted with the stated desire of all those who attended to address issues which affect the community on matchdays."

Local politicians joined local groups, including four community councils, Police Scotland, Rangers supporters, Glasgow Life and Glasgow Housing Association.

Mr Robertson added: “Even though we have the equivalent of a medium sized small town coming into the Ibrox area on matchdays and this demands a lot of planning and organization, we always recognise we are duty bound to help ensure everyone - supporters and locals - is able to come and go as smoothly and as safely as possible.

“I was able to outline to colleagues, on what I hope was only the first of many Forums, that we continually remind our fans that when they travel to and from matches, their behaviour reflects on the Club."
