STEVEN Gerrard has his eye on at most two new signings in January and he insisted no Rangers player is available to buy.

The manager was reacting to the club’s director of football Mark Allen’s interview in The Herald. He claimed there was money to spend in the upcoming January window despite the club posting a loss of £14m.

Gerrard revealed that while there wouldn’t be a lot of business done, he expected the board’s backing and would speak face-to-face with Dave King when the Rangers chairman is in Glasgow for next Tuesday’s AGM.

Gerrard said: “I saw Mark’s interview and I agree with what he says about a recruitment process continuing even when the window is shut. He’s looking for players to strengthen a position or area in the team where we may be light or short.

“We never stop looking to improve. In terms of January I don’t envisage many signings. It’s difficult to say if it will be one or two, we’ll have to wait and see, but we are looking. If that player becomes available in January then I will ask the board to support me on it.”

Gerrard believes this is the ideal time for manager and owned to chat before his team face eleven games, starting today with Livingston at Ibrox, until the winter break when he will be able to sign players.

The Englishman said: “I always sit down with him whether there is an AGM or not. Every time he is over, we have a dinner together. We’ll do that again in the next couple of days, then go into the AGM together and face whatever is thrown at us.

“The timing is good for a couple of reasons. The chairman hasn’t been over for a while, so we can talk about what’s happened in the games just played. We are also coming up to a window and to an AGM, so there will be a lot on the agenda to talk about and I’m really looking forward to the meal.

‘Every time he has been over, we have had a good couple of hours together and spoken about the team and the squad.

“I have already spoken to him about keeping the squad together. None of our players are available In January. But they all have a price. That never changes.”

Gerrard, perhaps surprisingly, admitted that he did not want to face Celtic at Ibrox on November 29 without a single away fan in the stadium.

Peter Lawwell, the Celtic chief executive, revealed he considered not taking up the allocation of around 8000 tickets before he feared for his supporters’ safety.

Gerrard said: "That’s Celtic’s decision if they decide to do that. I hope they don’t because I think big football matches and Old Firms are about both sets of fans and the banter and that type of stuff. If they decide not to, that is their decision.”
