A MAN has died after being hit by a taxi on Dumbarton Road in Glasgow’s West End.

The Evening Times previously reported how the road closed to all traffic between Crow Road and Peel Street due to a police incident just before 11pm on Sunday.

Road users had been urged to avoid the area and to consider alternate routes.

Police Scotland has now said that, at around 9.50pm, the 61-year-old pedestrian was walking on Dumbarton Road, near to its junction with Hayburn Street, when he was struck by a taxi being driven eastbound by a 66-year-old man.

Emergency services attended and the injured man was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The taxi driver was uninjured.

The road was closed for approximately four hours while an investigation took place at the scene.

Sergeant Nicola Taylor, of Road Policing Glasgow, is now appealing to any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police to come forward.

She has also appealed to anyone travelling on Dumbarton Road around the time of the crash who has dash cam footage to contact her office.
