Storm Diana will batter Glasgow with rain and 50mph winds expected throughout the day.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind over the city for the entire day.

The gales are expected to be particularly strong between 2pm and 6pm this afternoon, and will lessen overnight before returning tomorrow morning.

Storm Diana has blown in from the Azores islands in the mid Atlantic and will hit the west coast of Scotland today.

The Met Office has warned that some delays to public transport are likely, and journey times could be longer.

There is also the possibility of power loss and cuts to other services.

Bonnie Diamond, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “Much of Scotland will see rain today. Glasgow will see 10-20mm by 6pm, and some areas of high ground could see 30mm by the end of the day.”

“Temperatures today will be about 13C but it will feel colder due to the high winds.”

The weather will clear tonight but the wind will pick up again tomorrow morning, she said.

More weather warnings are in place for Scotland tomorrow but none are currently in place over Glasgow.

Network Rail Scotland said it would monitoring high-risk flooding areas while the weather warning is in place.

“We will monitor wind speeds and #ChainsawGangs will be on standby to clear any fallen trees & wind blown debris from tracks,” it added in a tweet.
