TWO Glasgow councillors have won awards recognising their achievements.

Elaine McDougal Labour councillor for Dennistoun won a Lifetime Contribution award at the Local Government Awards.

She was recognised for work including a campaign to establish war memorial in Dennistoun and securing a long-term future for the Family And Baby bank which allows local families to access essential goods in the local community.

Ms McDougall was nominated for the significant impact she has had over the past 25 years on the east end of Glasgow.

Michael Cullen, SNP Garscadden/Scotstounhill councillor was also given a special mention in the New Cocunillor category.

He was commended for his “tireless work in the community promoting mental health and wellbeing projects”.

He was nominated for his approach to politics; for listening to the community and encouraging people to engage with the political process.

The awards were the inaugural Local Government Information Unit LCiU awards held in Edinburgh.
