Detectives investigating the murder of Billyjoe Bates will returned to the Milton scene in a bid to quiz members of the public almost two weeks after his death.

Plain clothes and uniform officers were stationed in in Ashgill Road between 12pm and 4pm on Sunday, December 2, to speak to people who may frequent the area in an attempt to jog their memories to help piece together the circumstances surrounding the 28-year-old's murder.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 2.30pm on Sunday, November 18, after 28 year old Billyjoe Bates was found lying seriously injured in the street.

He was rushed to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary by an ambulance but he later died in the early hours of Thursday, November 22.

Detective Chief Inspector Suzie Chow from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team's west division said: “The friends and family of Mr Bates have been left completely devastated by his murder and we are appealing for the community of Milton to support us in finding out what happened to him and why.

“Yesterday afternoon we were at the scene speaking to pedestrians and motorists who perhaps travel through the area on a regular basis in the hope that they can remember something they saw or heard which seemed out of the ordinary.

“Even the slightest detail could be important in helping us get to the bottom of this murder investigation and provide answers for the family of Mr Bates.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team (West) via 101, quoting incident number 2422 of Sunday. November18.

"Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.”

It's understood the victim was a relative of slain Billy Bates who was murdered and dumped in an oil drum in the River Clyde in 2007.

He is also thought to have been friends with Kenny Reilly, who was shot dead as he sat a set of traffic lights in Maryhill earlier this year.

Following the young man's shock death, friends flocked to social media to pay tribute.
