OVER 200 Brownies have successfully earned a coveted badge at the weekend by completing a range of STEM activities.
The event, organised by BAE Systems Naval Ships in partnership with Girl Guiding UK, was held to encourage the Brownies to earn their badge which was developed to inspire young girls into learning more about STEM related topics.
Activities included building rockets and sending them to the moon.
STEM ambassadors were on hand throughout the day to share their knowledge and hopefully inspire the next generation of female engineers.
The day was split over two sessions with around 100 in both the morning and afternoon.
Jennifer Blee, procurement director, opened the event by giving an overview of BAE Systems and talking about the opportunities that studying STEM subjects could lead to.
The Brownies worked their way through five different activity stations, including learning about earthquake-proof buildings which involved the girls creating buildings from spaghetti and marshmallows.
Caroline Clucas, head of early careers and skills, rounded off their experience by reiterating how fun and exciting STEM can be and summarised some of the opportunities available to everyone.
