THE opening date of the much-anticipated gastropub from the brains behind Six By Nico has finally been revealed.

Public House by Nico will open to the public on Great Western Road on Friday, December 14.

Occupying a prime position in Glasgow’s West End - the former Mallard - the new venue will British pub classics with a twist under the direction of head chef Nico Simeone.

Following in the success of award-winning sister restaurants Six by Nico and 111 by Nico, Public House by Nico will offer a broad selection of seasonal small plates and larger dishes.

There will also be a big emphasis on weekend brunch and Sunday roasts.

The menu, which has also today been revealed online, provides a taste of what is to come.

Dishes include:

  • beer battered fish of the day, with tartare sauce and mushy peas
  • flat iron, with chimichurri, smoked tomato compote and flat-cap mushroom
  • chestnut gnocchi, with sprout tops, smoked pancetta and sage
  • cauliflower soup, with gribiche and tempura cauliflower
  • curried monkfish, with mussel, bok choi and lime

Sunday roast will be at the heart of service every Sunday. Bosses have said it will be served from noon until 5pm, with courses costing £19 or three for £23.

The restaurant will offer a slice of cosy countryside in the heart of Glasgow where guests will also find real local ales and fruity wines.

Nico said: “It’s been on my radar to open a modern gastropub restaurant for some time.

“The actual turnaround time, from us acquiring the site to fit out and now the final stages of preparation, has been pretty quick though.

“It’s a brilliant location and perfect for what we want to achieve; an informal and relaxed offer, a real neighbourhood restaurant where you can drop in for a quick bite, enjoy a spot of lunch or brunch or get together with friends and family over Sunday dinner. “There are some top operators already doing great things in Glasgow and we’re looking forward to bringing something totally different to the city.”
