A man has died after falling from a top floor balcony at a busy shopping centre.
Police confirmed a man was pronounced dead at the scene around 4.30pm today at Buchanan Galleries.
Emergency services attended at the scene which was busy with shoppers.
It's been reported the man was with family in the Burger King restaurant on the centre's top floor.
The centre - which was packed with Christmas shoppers - was evacuated immediately after the incident but later reopened, although escalators remained closed.
Police are on the scene
An eye witness told the Evening Times: “I was just walking past and saw all the police swarm in.
"Afterwards nobody was brought out to the ambulance so I knew it must have been fatal."
Another added: “It’s absolutely terrible. This close to Christmas as well - its a sin.”
It's understood the man's family remained in the centre with police before they were helped from the premisies.
Another shopper said: “I’ve always known how dangerous that is. It’s a sheer drop.
"There should be mesh or something on that.”
A large section of the centre, near to Greggs and Costa, is closed along with the food court area.
A forensic tent has been put up with shoppers being redirected away from the scene.
However, some stores are operating as normal.
A spokesperson for Buchanan Galleries said: “We can confirm an incident took place this afternoon within the centre. We are co-operating fully with the emergency services and assisting them with their enquiries.”
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "At around 4.20pm on Monday a man died after a fall at Buchanan Galleries.
"An investigation is currently under way to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
"Police enquiries are ongoing."
A Costa Coffee spokeswoman: “We are aware of the incident and will continue to support the local police authorities in their on-going investigations.”
