LEADING Scottish artists including John Byrne and Jack Vettriano have donated works for an auction which aims to raised funds for a Glasgow mum fighting two types of cancer.

Claire Bothwell, 40, from Patrick, who is married with three young children, has been diagnosed with bowel cancer and lymphoma.

Friends and family have launched a mammoth fundraising campaign to raise £100,000 to send her to the US for pioneering treatment.

Later this month the biggest event so far will see dozens of pieces of art go under the hammer at a special auction at Glasgow’s Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA).

Three of the artists – Rachel Maclean, John Byrne and Jack Vettriano – were part of a BBC film on Billy Connolly that was produced and directed by Claire’s husband Liam McArdle.

Glasgow Times:

Claire was diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer last year after waiting six months to be tested for the disease.

Following surgery to remove the tumour, doctors found the disease had spread to her lungs.

A second blow came this year when doctors discovered she had another, entirely unrelated, blood cancer called follicular lymphoma.

Claire was told her second cancer diagnosis meant she doesn’t qualify for NHS clinical trials.

The hope is now that the £100,000 being raised will let her explore treatment options elsewhere in the world.
