I tried to sign Steve Clarke when I was manager of Celtic.

With Danny McGrain coming to the end of his career, I had identified Clarke as a potential replacement before he went to Chelsea.

That was the time when I also wanted Pat Nevin and Joe McLaughlin – with Jack McGinn telling the media that if I wanted them I’d be paying for them out of my own pocket!

In any case, I have always been a fan of Clarke and you have to applaud what he has done at Rugby Park.

It has been a remarkable turnaround and you see that in the way that he has individual players really on top of their game and playing with a real consistency.

But I think that Celtic will prevail on Saturday afternoon.

There were a lot of changes for the game at Fir Park but to be honest I felt as though Celtic had more than enough to win the game, especially in that first half.

There is always going to be a reaction when you are playing so many games, particularly so many high profile matches.

I think it was the right call to rest some players and when you do that then you know there is a risk that you might drop points.

I suspect normal service will resume and in a way I think the fact that they know they need to be on it to get back to the top of the league can help them before they go into the final Europa League group game against Salzburg.
