GLASGOW diners are in for a treat as a new book is set to reveal recipes from some of the city’s top restaurants.

Celebrating the vibrant and quirky food scene of Glasgow, The Glasgow and West Coast Cook Book will also introduce some new and exciting places to visit which offer innovative flavours and culinary talent.

The stories and recipes of award-winning restaurants such as The Gannet and A’Challtainn will be laid bare for foodies to try at home, thanks to Paul Trainer, food writer for glasgowist.com, who partly compiled the book.

Featuring over 45 recipes, writers have promised “something to suit everybody’s taste.”

With forewords from Ivan Stein and Peter McKenna from The Gannet, and Rory McGinley from Two Fat Ladies at The Buttery, the book celebrates the relationship between Glasgow and the surrounding countryside, formed by the supply of fresh Scottish produce.

The variety of restaurants, cafes, delis and more showcases the best independent businesses Scotland’s biggest city has to offer.

Contributors include Mussel Inn, which sells locally-sourced seafood from the west coast sea lochs, as well as a wide selection of meat and vegetarian dishes.

The Hope Street eatery’s mini seafood platter recipe is one of the restaurant’s most popular dishes and offers an array of tastes and textures.

Quirky sandwich shop chain Piece also offers something a little different to the Glaswegian food scene. Its aim is to turn the staple lunchtime sandwich into an icon, delivering an undeniably tasty dish.

The Fish People, on Scotland Street, also features.

Glasgowist’s Paul described how, like the city’s favourite recipes, the new book “is greater than the sum of its parts.”

He said: “For a start, it’s twice the size we thought it would be, uniting the finest chefs in the west of Scotland.

“The book became more than a collection of restaurant dishes to try at home. It’s a portrait of where we live right now. Buy this book for your own kitchen or give someone you like a taste of Glasgow.”

The Buttery’s general manager Rory added: “The book arrives at a point in which the city’s food scene is thriving.

“We’re delighted to find ourselves as part of such an impressive collection.”

l The Glasgow and West Coast Cook Book is £14.95 available to purchase from all of the contributors included in the book. It can also be bought from independent shops, as well as chains Waterstones, WHSmith, and online from Amazon.
