A RAPIST with a likeness to television character Joe 90 who didn’t tell his new girlfriend - or the police - that he was using a different name has been jailed for 18 months.

John McGurk, 33, called Joe by his friends because he’s thought to look the character from the 1960s TV show about the adventures of a nine-year-old super spy.

He met a girl through mutual friends and he allowed her to believe he was called Joe Henderson.

The sex-offender stayed at her house for a couple of nights at at time and told her the tattoo on his arm that said “John” was his son, who he no longer saw.

After the social work department found out he had a girlfriend, with children and reported him to police, he was found hiding in her bedroom.

McGurk, was jailed for six years in March 2006 for raping and battering a 60-year-old Alzheimer sufferer in her home.

He pleaded guilty yesterday at Glasgow Sheriff Court for breaching the terms of his notification requirements between March and August 2018, that he needs to comply with as a sex offender.

Passing sentence sheriff Neil Mackinnon said “only a custodial disposal is appropriate”.

The court heard that that following his conviction at the High Court in Glasgow in 2006 McGurk was made subjection to the notifications of the sex offenders’ register.
