An Australian coffee shop chain has set its sights on Glasgow as one of their first UK locations.

Gloria Jean's has submitted plans to move into the St Enoch Centre in its Scottish debut.

If given the go-ahead, a 50-seat cafe/restaurant could be created in an empty shop unit on the first floor of the shopping centre.

A document submitted with the planning application by agent CBRE states: “Gloria Jean’s is a global coffee shop brand which is a new entrant to the UK market.

“As part of their UK rollout, it is intended to open 13 new outlets within the UK over in 2018/2019. Glasgow St Enoch’s will be one of the first outlets to open in the UK.”

It adds: “We consider that Gloria Jean’s Coffee will provide an exciting new food and drink use, appropriate to the shopping area and a sustainable use for the unit moving forward.”

The application comes just days after Indian burrito brand Wrap Chic announced plans to open their first Glasgow outlet in the centre.

If given the green light, the eatery will operate on a ‘grab and go’ concept, with the majority of customers taking their food off the premises to be consumed.
