ScotRail passengers travelling to Glasgow have been left waiting for replacement buses after an incident on the rail line between Aberdeen and Montrose. 

The rail providers posted on their social media channels just after 4pm to report that trains from Aberdeen to Edinburgh and Glasgow via Montrose would be affected. 

A number of replacement buses have now been sent to Aberdeen, with more to follow throughout the evening. Others will similarly be leaving Dundee in the opposite direction.

Whilst officials deal with the aftermath of the incident, services from Glasgow and Edinburgh to Aberdeen will terminate and start back from Dundee. 

Posting on Twitter, Scotrail said: "Sadly, due to a person being hit by a train between Aberdeen & Montrose, our services between Aberdeen and Montrose, Glasgow and Edinburgh have been suspended."

"We’re working closely with the emergency services to deal with this incident between Aberdeen and Montrose."

In a statement, Police Scotland said: "Police Scotland officers are currently dealing with an ongoing incident on the railway line adjacent to St Fitticks Road Aberdeen. At this time there is no further information available.

"Until further notice vehicular and pedestrian traffic are advised to avoid the area and seek an alternative route."
