A pensioner has been injured after a yob flung a rock at a bus.

The bus was travelling from Ardrossan to Kilmarnock along Saltcoats Road, Stevenson, around 7.40pm on Thursday.

A rock thrown at the bus at the nearside of the vehicle smashed the window and struck a 65-year-old woman on the head.

A spokesperson for Ayrshire Police Division said “local officers are continuing enquiries into this incident by reviewing all possible CCTV footage and speaking to potential witnesses. The female passenger was assessed by Ambulance at the scene - thankfully her injuries were only minor and she did not require any further treatment.

“Understandably the driver and other passengers on board the bus would have been left shaken by this incident - such a reckless action could have devastating consequences.

“I would appeal to anyone who knows who was responsible for this incident to please contact us.”

"Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to contact police by calling 101 (in an emergency always dial 999). Information can also be passed via the independent charity CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111."
