Elf on the Shelf has become a popular Christmas tradition for many Glasgow families over the festive season, where the naughty elf gets up to all sorts of mischief around the home.

But what can start as just a bit of Christmas fun can turn into a nightmare for parents, as they struggle to find new things for the sneaky elf to do.

But as shared by Manchester Evening News, a new and smart idea has given mums and dads some much needed inspirtation to keep the kids entertained.
All you need is a TV and Youtube.

If you have a smart TV, can go onto the YouTube app, type in 'Elf stuck in TV' and one of santa's festive helpers will be 'trapped' behind the screen.

Next to the elf's cheeky face is the the message: "I hit the wrong button on the remote.. How do I get out of here?"

The hack is being shared by delighted parents all over social media.

They can now sleep easy knowing the naughty elf has got enough mischeif for one day.

Those who don't have a smart TV with Youtube built in can play it from your phone or laptop on your TV.

Just open the mobile YouTube app and tap on the 'cast' icon, or just plug in your laptop and watch the cheeky elf cause mischeif from behind the screen.
