A COMMUNITY is at its wit's end after yet another night of vandalism and violence in Battlefield.

This time, the shop front of the Millbrae Hill Cafe was smashed in by young thugs with golf clubs.

It is believed to be the same group of teenagers that has caused tens of thousands of pounds of damage in the South Side area.

So far the young gang has shattered bus shelters and phone boxes, smashed shop windows and close doors, and flat windows.

Some businesses have been targeted more than once, leaving small business owners thousands of pounds out of pocket.

Dozens of local people have reported seeing the group of youths, sometimes armed with golf clubs and other times with hammers, stalking the streets.

Local councillor Anna Richardson moved to reassure residents that police are taking the crimes seriously and are working to stop the gang.

Ms Richardson responded on Facebook to concerns about the gang.

She wrote: "I’ve been speaking to the community police about the current vandalism.

"I appreciate the community wants information, but there is a limit to what [police] can say, to me as well.

"They are absolutely dealing with these cases, and taking them through the appropriate channels.

"There is increased resourcing on our streets at the moment in response, but much of this will be unmarked vehicles and plain clothes officers.

"Please keep reporting in as they can’t be everywhere at once."

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to Millbrae Hill Cafe in what is a second round of damage.
