A GLASGOW nursery worker who had already been issued with an official warning after a child went missing has now been struck off for leaving infants unsupervised.

An investigation found Nicolle Guemar put children ‘at risk of harm’ and breached the trust of parents by leaving infants unattended in a room of the nursery as well as breaching other health and safety procedures.

Children were allowed to go into the garden without being safely accompanied by staff and no checks were made to ensure the area was safe and secure.

The nursery was not named in the report but official documents state it is run by Forth Care Limited. The company operates a number of Little Einsteins nurseries in Scotland including one in Pollokshields on Glasgow’s South Side.

The nursery worker, who is described as an Early Years Practitioner in the inquiry papers, was hit with a 12-month warning by care watchdogs on November 28, 2015, after she failed to notice a child had left a group under her care.

While on this warning, the following year, she left children sleeping in the nursery room without supervision and then attempted to conceal her actions by asking a colleague not to report the incidents to bosses.

The incidents happened on January 15, 2015 and on or around May 2016. She was given a warning by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) on November 28, for the incident in which a child left the nursery.

She has now been struck off following a recent hearing by the SSSC, who said it was the only appropriate action to maintain the public’s confidence in the profession.

The SSSC said: “ These allegations are serious and placed vulnerable children at risk of harm.

“This behaviour breaches the trust and confidence placed in you by your employer, by the children and their families.

“Your behaviour demonstrates a pattern of poor practice over a prolonged period of time.”

Forth Care Limited did not respond when approached by the Evening Times. The company runs other nurseries in Arbroath, Kircaldy, Perth and Dundee.
