A CHARITY volunteer, who came to the country legally with her parents at the age of 13, is facing deportation charges following a Home Office decision which has been branded “callous”.
For the last five years, the Home Office has attempted to send 30-year-old Chennan Fei back to China - despite the fact she has a degree from the University of Edinburgh and is currently engaged to a Scotsman.
The public has backed Ms Fei’s appeal with more than 60,000 people having signed a petition urging the home secretary to intervene to allow her to remain in Scotland.
Her MP has condemned the "appalling treatment," reports STV News.
Ms Fei, who currently lives in Renton, East Dunbartonshire, will attend an immigration appeal hearing on Thursday - even though just last year a judge at the Court of Session in Edinburgh ruled officials attempting to send her to the country she had not visited in 15 years had not acted in accordance with the law.
Martin Docherty-Hughes MP said: "Scotland has been Chennan's home for more than half her life. It's where she has grown up, been educated at school and university, and it's where she met and fell in love with her fiancee Duncan.” After spending over 16 years building a life here in Scotland, the prospect of Chennan being torn away from her loved ones through no fault of her own has been deeply distressing.”
The Home Office has not commented.
