A SCOTTISH airline has stepped in to save a flight route from Glasgow to Germany.

Loganair will fly to the countru for the first time from March 31 with a daily flight to Düsseldorf using its newly-acquired Embraer 145 Regional Jet aircraft.

The firm is stepping in to protect the route after current operator Eurowings announced it would scrap its service on March 30.

The new Loganair schedule can be booked from today, with fares starting at £69.99.

It departs Glasgow at 10.20am, arriving in Dusseldorf one hour and 50 minutes later at 1.10pm local time, before returning to Scotland at 1.50pm and touching down again in Glasgow at 2.40pm.

Paul White, head of aviation at Glasgow Airport, added: “Loganair’s decision to introduce its first route to Germany is a landmark moment for the airline and welcome news for Glasgow Airport.

“Dusseldorf continues to be a popular destination and this new service from Scotland’s airline will provide our passengers with even greater choice.

“The introduction of the daily service to this fantastic city will also further strengthen our strong links with Germany, which currently includes routes to Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich.”

Jonathan Hinkles, Loganair’s managing director added: “Our new Dusseldorf route is Loganair’s first foray into Germany, heralding another significant milestone for the airline as our reach extends into continental Europe."
