An investigation has been launched to bring vandals who have been causing chaos across a south side community to justice.

Police are investigating a number of incidents in recent days that have seen thousands of pounds worth of damage caused to properties in Battlefield and surrounding areas.

On Monday night, locals reported seeing the culprits, believed to be teenagers, smashing bus stops, walking on train tracks and damaging cars.

Their spree continued at Langside College where damage was reportedly done windows and classrooms.

Chris Walsh shared an image of his work van that had fallen victim to the vandals overnight.

The vehicle had both its windscreen and side windows smashed meaning it could not be used to transport kids on a Christmas Day out as intended.

Other damage was reported at Clockwork Beer company on Cathcart Road and a bus stop in Crossmyloof.

It comes after the shop front of the Millbrae Hill Cafe was smashed in by young thugs with golf clubs.

As previously reported by the Evening Times, local councillor Anna Richardson moved to reassure residents that police are taking the crimes seriously and are working to stop the gang.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland: “An investigation is underway following a number of reports of vandalism to businesses and properties in Shawlands.”

It is believed that officers are currently close to catching those responsible.
