GLASGOW actress and comedian Elaine C. Smith has been spreading festive joy amin passengers at Glasgow Airport.

Friends and family members of travelling passengers were asked to nominate deserving characters to receive a Christmas surprise and to give details on why they were nominating their loved ones.

Elaine, who is currently playing Widow Twankey in Aladdin at the King’s Theatre, was only too happy to step in and surprise holidaymakers.

The 60-year-old said: ”It’s been terrific fun to bring Christmas panto carry-on into the airport and to give presents out.

“I’m also proud to say Widow Twankey has brought many a smile to many travellers in the last few days as we have been filming the surprises in the airport. It’s been a great laugh.”

Denise Gilmour, Glasgow Airport’s head of retail, added: “Christmas is a special time and this is particularly true at the airport.

“We see families reuniting for the holidays with loved ones returning from working away and grandparents seeing grandchildren for the first time.

“We’ve even seen the occasional marriage proposal.”

She continued: “We cannot thank Elaine enough for taking part.

“Having Widow Twankey surprise passengers at Glasgow Airport is unique and all the families taking part have really enjoyed meeting her.”  

The Christmas Surprise Stories will be running on all social media channels from Thursday (December 20) and will be running up until Christmas Eve.
