A SECRET meeting has reportedly taken place in Glasgow to discuss what will happen should the Queen die while at her Scottish residence.

Last week, civic leaders from across Scotland - known as The Scottish Provosts Association - met in the city to discuss what would happen if Elizabeth II passed away while in residence in Scotland.

The group apparently meets at The Lighthouse, just off Buchanan Street, reports The Times.

Scotland’s Centre for Design and Architecture is also the former home of our sister title The Herald.

The newspaper claimed those in attendance at the meeting confirmed “Operation London Bridge” was on the agenda.

As previously reported by the Evening Times, “Operation London Bridge” is the code name for the events that will kick into place when the 92-year-old monarch dies.

The code will be used to prevent switchboard operators from finding out, and civil servants will say “London Bridge is down” on secure lines.

According to The Times, if the Queen dies while at Balmoral, her body will be transferred to Edinburgh where it would lie at Holyroodhouse, at the bottom of the Royal Mile.

Afterwards, it would be taken for a service at St Giles’ Cathedral on High Street, before heading for the Royal Train at Waverley Station to then be taken to London.

Information on “Operation London Bridge” was revealed in a detailed report by The Guardian last year based on various emergency plans in already in place.
