Glasgow’s biggest bus firm has been awarded cash to help buy more low emission buses.

The Scottish Government Green bus Fund has given £1.14m to First Glasgow and Glasgow Airport for more low carbon buses.

It is the eighth round of funding which has seen more than £16m allocated to help reduce pollution helping pay for 360 new buses across the country.

The cash for Glasgow comes as the first Low Emission Zone come into effect in the city centre for buses.

Transport secretary , Michael Matheson, announced the latest cash pay outs.

He said: “The Scottish Government committed to introducing Low Emission Zones into Scotland’s four biggest cities between 2018 and 2020. Glasgow is the first city to implement a zone, working with the bus industry to respond to the particular air quality challenges within Glasgow city centre.

“To help support this transition, we have provided over £10m pounds in 2018 to assist with local authority delivery and the costs associated with bus retrofit technology.
