A SUPERMARKET was forced to close its doors on New Year's Day after a fire.

Crews were sent to the Co-op in Houston's Crosslee Crescent just after 4am on Tuesday after receiving a report of rubbish on fire.

Firefighters tackled the fire at the back of the building and checked the roof as a precaution.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed around four crews were sent to the scene.

The SFRS confirmed that no one was injured.

The Co-op in Houston apologised to customers.

In a statement, the store said: "Happy new year to our customers. Unfortunately there was a fire and as of yet we are unable to get into store. We will update as and when we can. Know it's not ideal for our locals. Remember Kilbarchan and Bridge of Weir are open for your needs."
