A PERSON has tragically died after they were struck by a train in Glasgow's South Side.

Transport cops and ambulance crews rushed to Mount Florida train station before 11.30am on Tuesday after receiving a report that a person had been struck by a train.

British Transport Police said the person died at the scene. The national force provided no further details about their age or sex.

The line was closed off for several hours with passengers advised to be aware of changes to several routes in Glasgow's South Side. Scotrail tickets were also accepted on several bus routes in the city.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to Mount Florida station, Glasgow at 11.29am on Wednesday, January 2 after reports of a person being struck by a train.

"Colleagues from the ambulance service also attended and a person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are working to identify the person and inform their family. This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal."
