A SECURITY guard was hospitalised following a robbery in the city's east end.

As first reported by the Evening Times, the G4S worker was targeted by two men outside Clydesdale Bank in Shettleston Road around 6.20pm on Sunday.

He was threatened with a weapon and robbed of a money cassette containing a five-figure sum of cash.

It's the second incident of its kind in just two days.

The 57-year-old guard received an injury to his hand and was rushed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he was treated and later released.

Police said he was been left badly shaken.

The two men made off in a blue coloured Ford Focus eastbound on Shettleston Road. A short time later police were informed of a car on fire at the rear of flats in Budhill Avenue.

This is believed to be the vehicle involved in this robbery. The first suspect has been described as around 6ft, of stocky build and wearing a dark green coloured jacket.

While the second is reportedly 5ft 8ins, of medium build and was wearing dark coloured clothing.

Detective Inspector Clark Hill of the Community Investigation Unit at Helen Street Police Office said: "This violent robbery has left the victim extremely distressed. It is totally unacceptable that someone is targeted whilst simply trying to do their job and the men responsible quite clearly had no regard for the victim.

“We are carrying out extensive enquiries into this cash in transit robbery and are appealing to the public for any information that will help us trace the men responsible for this robbery as soon as possible. I would urge any witnesses to the robbery itself, or anyone with information on car set on fire at Budhill Avenue to come forward to police. This vehicle is currently undergoing forensic examination.

“At this time we are not linking this robbery to a similar robbery outside the Royal Bank of Scotland on Duke Street on Friday afternoon, however we cannot rule anything out at this stage.”

Any information should be passed to police via 101. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.
