A CAFE on Glasgow's South Side has been forced to close after being broken into for the seventh time.

The owners of Cafe 13 in Govan said they had been left 'sad and unsure' for the future of the business after being targeted by thieves every year since the business opened in 2013.

In a post shared on Facebook, they claimed the cafe was the only shop which has not been supplied with shutters by the heritage project, Govan Cross THI, which they said would help alleviate the problem.

They wrote: "Unfortunately the cafe will be closed today due to yet another break in. This has left us sad and unsure of the future of the cafe at the current premises in Govan.

"Since we opened in 2013 we have been broken into every year.

"We have constantly spoken with Govan Cross THI, who were involved in the shop front improvements regarding why the cafe building is the only shop front which has not been supplied with shutters, as this would alleviate the problem. Unfortunately this always falls on deaf ears, as did a meeting with the local MP.

"As we rent the premise we are finding it increasingly difficult each time we have to deal with this issue without support from the above."

Dozens of locals and customers posted messages of support for the small business.

Claire Higgins posted: "It would be a disgrace if the cafe needed to close and relocate somewhere else. The cafe is such a nice addition to Govan and really does add some magic and a touch of class to the Crossx."

Laura McColl posted: "I am so sorry. That’s terrible. I really hope you guys get that you need to stay in Govan. You would be a huge loss to the community."

Police said enquiries were ongoing.
