UPDATE: Member of the public ‘forced to direct rush-hour traffic’ at busy Duke Street junction amid chaotic scenes. Read more here
DRIVERS were forced to leave their vehicles in a Glasgow carpark after traffic light problems left them unable to exit the building in the evening rush hour.
Motorists took to Twitter to demand answers from Glasgow City Council after waiting more than an hour to leave Duke Street multi-storey carpark.
A number of drivers said they had given up and abandoned their vehicles to catch trains.
A spokeswoman for Glasgow City Council said the problem was due to temporary traffic lights put in place by Scottish Gas Networks and a failure to put staff in place to direct traffic from 7am to 7pm as required.
She said police were drafted in to allow motorists to leave the carpark and said the council would be seeking anwers from the gas authority.
