Lewis has been found safe and well.
A search has been launched for an autistic teenager has gone missing from a care unit.
Lewis Birch was last seen by staff at a care unit in Hurlford, near Kilmarnock, around 9.30pm on Thursday.
The 16-year-old is described as white, around 5ft 8 inches in height and of medium build with dark-red hair. When he was last seen he was wearing a navy top, black denim jeans and wearing an orange jacket.
Sergeant Iain Farmer of Kilmarnock Police Office said: “Lewis has been missing before, but usually returns after a few hours.
"Concern for his wellbeing and safety is growing because he hasn’t been seen since Thursday night.
“Anyone with information regarding Lewis’ whereabouts is asked to contact Kilmarnock Police Office through 101 quoting reference number 3953 of Thursday 10 January 2019.”
