A HISTORIC Glasgow pub has promised fans it won't be changing its famous interior.

Worried customers expressed concern over the future of Sloans Bar and Restaurant when it announced it would close for two weeks to undergo refurbishment.

One worried patron contacted the Evening Times to say: "We were going to meet at Sloans tomorrow night to celebrate the fact that we had our wedding reception there 15 years ago, only to discover that it is closed for 'refurbishment'.

"We are concerned, as I am sure so many couples, who may have chosen their ring in the historic Argyle Arcade and/or gone on to enjoy hospitality at Sloans would be, given the results of other refurbishments/destruction of historic interiors in this city."

She added: "The building is absolutely beautiful and has an ‘A’ listed interior and exterior, which includes a fantastic Art Nouveau ballroom. It is one of the last of the coaching inns in Glasgow still standing. Wonderfully, it also has both the entrance/exit routes, to the front elevation clear and extant as such, it should be protected."

The bar has insisted only necessary works is taking place.

Nicola Wilkinson, Operations Manager for Sloans, said: “January’s a wee bit quieter for us so we’re taking the time to carry out some maintenance work in the kitchen and back of house area to make operations smoother for our team.

“Sloans is part of the fabric of our city and we’re keeping everything you know and love in this beautiful old building.

“We can’t wait to reopen on January 21 and look forward to welcoming all our customers back to the bar.”
