Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed that she will refer herself to the panel of independent advisers on the Ministerial Code over her meetings with Alex Salmond.

Ms Sturgeon did not record details of her meetings with Mr Salmond about an official inquiry into claims of sexual harrassment.

The Ministerial Code requires that such meetings are documented.

Labour Leader Richard Leonard pressed the First Minister on Thursday to refer herself to a standards comittee over the meetings.

She replied that she would consider his request.

Sturgeon had claimed that she met Mr Salmond five times in her capacity as leader of his party, not as First Minister, and the meetings were therefore "not government meetings".

The First Minister said today: "It is in the interests of the women who have complained that the ongoing police investigations are allowed to continue without any risk of prejudice."

The Ministerial Code states that if ministers “find themselves discussing official business” while at a non-government event such as a social occasion, they should make a record of it.
