THE wait is over... today we can reveal the sports heroes who have been shortlisted for the Sports Person of the Year Awards.
A top team of judges poured over the nominations looking for the talent, dedication and skill needed to be a winner.
This year there are 10 categories covering a host of talent such as Disabled Athlete of the Year, Team of the Year and Coach of the Year.
These make sure all aspects of sport - from the stars to those grafting behind the scenes - are rewarded.
Councillor David McDonald, Depute Leader of Glasgow City Council and chairman of Glasgow Life, said: “Glasgow’s annual Sports Person of the Year Awards is a night which allows us to celebrate the triumphs and highlights of our local sporting community.
“Our city is home to numerous teams, clubs, and individuals who all deserve to be recognised for their hard work and dedication.
"Every single person and group nominated or shortlisted for these awards has worked tirelessly throughout the year to achieve their own goals - whether that is winning medals at an international level, or inspiring and helping the younger generation.
"From grassroots to World Championship level, their dedication to promoting sport in our city and country is fantastic.
"I’d like to say a huge congratulations to all our nominees, and wish you the best of luck on the night of the awards."
The Evening Times sponsors Volunteer of the Year with Stuart Crossan of Pollok Utd Soccer Academy, Abdul Bostani of Afghan United, and Anne Glass of Drumchapel Cycle Hub all on the shortlist.
The Drumchapel Cycle Hub came into existence two years ago, and since then has become a flourishing centre for the local community.
This has all happened due to Anne’s hard work and care for her community.
Anne’s commitment to putting engagement with the local community first has helped the Cycle Hub reach a diverse range of people.
She has been the one organising and driving the Cycle Hub from the beginning, in an area where there are high levels of deprivation and low levels of bike ownership.
Currently there are popular weekly rides for women, weekly rides for all, learn to ride sessions for kids and more - all with a focus on getting those who would benefit from cycling on their bikes and enjoying their local countryside. Anne has also been a driving force behind a session specifically for young people with Additional Support Needs.
In the past year, Anne has:
*Developed Drumchapel Cycle hub into a fully constituted group led by volunteers
*Established a range of community cycle groups including women's, family and sessions aimed at those with long term health conditions
*Worked to train and support local volunteers in the Drumchapel Cycle Hub - Kids Club which helps more than 50 young people learn to Ride each week in Drumchapel
*Developed an ASN specific Kids Learn to Ride session, where trained volunteers work in a suitable environment to support young people with additional support needs
Anne said: "I am very pleased and a little bit embarrassed.
"We have a lot of different people doing different things at the bike club, there are always people around and I think that's important, that the community gets behind it.
"Being shortlisted also raises the profile of the club, which is really important to me too.
"It's also great for this community because this is a community that is not always seen in the best light.
"Drumchapel is a fantastic place but people often have a poor vision of this particular area. There are a lot of amazing people here who do great things."
