A NEWLY established cancer support group in Deganwy has already proved to be a great success.

The group, organised by cllr Julie Fallon, has met twice and has identified and started to meet a need for more support in the community for cancer sufferers and their families.

Cllr Fallon said: “I have held two support groups meetings so far and there has already been a general consensus the care sufferers receive from medical staff is wonderful, but they want more support within the community.

“The opportunity to talk to fellow sufferers, or family members and loved ones living with cancer, and being able to share their experiences with each other has been quite therapeutic.

The group meets on the first Friday of every month at All Saints Church, Deganwy, from 10.30am until 12.30. It is open to anybody whose life is touched by cancer, that could be patients, loved ones or friends.

“There is literature available and representatives from health, charities and other groups will drop in on sessions. It is very much being guided by what people want and feel is most appropriate to support them.”

She added: “We have lots of warm drinks, yummy cakes and it is all free.”
