THERESA May must be thinking “Well that was £1bn well spent” when she kicks of her shoes in Downing Street tonight.

Without the 10 DUP votes she would have lost the no confidence vote and be looking at phoning Pickfords in the morning to move her and Philip out.

What was interesting was the speeches of others who looked like they were making leadership pitches.

Tom Watson, Labour Deputy, gave a thoughtful and incisive critique of Mrs May and why she should go, a performance better than Jeremy Corbyn has managed.

The future of Jeremy Corbyn must be in doubt after he has failed in his 'long game' strategy of waiting to call the no confidence motion in order to bring about a General Election.

He will now come under greater pressure to back a people's vote and state if he will back remain in any second referendum.

The new look slimmed down Mr Watson looked and sounded like he was ready to step up if the opportunity arises.

And Michael Gove ripped into the Labour leader and had the Tories screaming for more.

As the Tory back benches called out "more" he delivered a theatrical performance at the despatch box.

He ripped into Mr Corbyn and attacked him for attending a wreath laying for terrorists who murdered Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympics, criticised him for opposing NATO and warned over his record on Syria. The Tory MPs loved it and Mr Gove who stayed in Government when Boris Johnson left, made the most of it, playing to the gallery.

Theresa May won’t contest the next election, that much is known. The leadership contest has begun and Mr Gove has elbowed right to the front.
