A NURSERY pupil was found wandering in the road by a member of the public.

Budhill Family Learning Centre has been forced to apologise after the little boy managed to slip out of the centre while he was in the care of nursery staff.

Bosses believe the four-year-old made his exit while parents were dropping off children for the morning session.

And they have now issued advice to parents and carers to be vigilant with security.

A Glasgow City Council spokeswoman said: "We are very sorry that this situation has occurred and nursery staff have apologised to the family for this very unfortunate and upsetting incident.

"A full investigation has been carried out by the nursery and stringent security measures have been reiterated and communicated to parents and staff over the last couple of days.

"A communication has been sent to families today informing them of what happened, the outcome of the investigation and the role that everyone has to play to ensure the safety of everyone in the nursery."

The security alert at the Springboig education establishment occurred on Monday morning.

It is thought the main door of the building, which is usually strictly locked, was left open by a parent who had been dropping off their own child.

The boy managed to slip out and headed for the road outside the nursery.

It is not believed that he was gone for long before a passerby realised he was alone and brought him back to his class.

Glasgow City Council education bosses, Health and Safety staff and the Care Inspectorate were immediately made aware and a full investigation was undertaken.

The boy is understood to have returned to the nursery school.

Parents have been reminded by letter of security procedures at Budhill and they are being asked to always ensure doors are closed behind them.

The letter, seen by the Evening Times, reads: "Parents and carers must not open the main security doors to allow others to enter, even if you know who the person is.

"Security doors will be operated by authorised staff only.

"Parents/Carers must not hold doors open to allow others to enter. This includes security doors."

It is hoped the advice will prevent any further incidents.
