A GLASGOW beautician is offering free wax treatments for women who attend their smear test appointments.

Debbie Porter, who runs Partick-based Waxing by Debbie, took to social media to encourage women to accept the life-saving test invitations after the death of reality star Jade Goody.

A challenge currently sweeping the social media platform encourages users to post two photos - one from 2009 and one from 2019 - to show how much they've changed over the decade.

But clever Debbie used the 10-year challenge to show the importance of attending the tests, which many women complain are embarrassing, by highlighting the case of 27-year-old Jade who died from cervical cancer 10 years ago.

She said: "To the younger girls on my social media feeds, in case you don’t know, the girl in the picture is Jade Goody. Ten years ago this girl lost her fight for life against cervical cancer at 27, 27-years-old, leaving two young boys and a family that doted on her!

"Cervical cancer can be detected by ensuring you go for your cervical smear tests, which we know a lot of girls are mortified at going for as they’re too embarrassed or scared.

"A five minute test that may save your life. Being a wax specialist, I see many of you girls who admit you haven’t been for a smear or too scared to do so, yet, you have me wax you for 20 minutes?"

The beautician will now offer a completely free bikini wax treatment to any woman with a confirmed smear test appointment.

She added: "If you’re brave enough to face me with a spatula, be brave enough to face a nurse with a swab and I’ll prepare you for your five minute appointment."

The post has been shared more than 10,000 times and received hundreds of comments, which proved to be a massive shock for Debbie.

She said: "I’m completely overwhelmed at how much my 10-year challenge has been shared and spoken about, I never in a million years expected the reaction that has came from an idea at 2am this morning."
