HOLYHEAD’S highly-anticipated skate park has officially opened to the public.

In December, the Town Council said they had to repair fencing placed around the £55,000 park as it had been damaged when youths broke in to gain access.

However, the pavilion’s new feature eventually opened last weekend as people of all ages were given the chance to try out the ramps and half pipes.

Although the official opening won’t take place until next month, those involved with the project say they are delighted to finally unveil it to the community.

Dale Moffat, who helps run the Pavilion’s tennis and basketball courts, bowling greens, bike track and now the skate park, said: “The Holyhead town council are very proud of our new skatepark at the town park.

“It has had amazing feedback already and we feel the community are very happy with it. It was great to see so many people using it, people of all ages and all abilities, as this was something that was a key factor for us wanting to set it up in the first place.

“We also wanted to keep people active and keep people outdoors. Holyhead has been crying out for a place like this and we hope we can continue our work and keep improving our facilities to benefit the area.”

The Pavilion has recently undergone major changes, having been decorated and CCTV and wifi has been put in place.

Holyhead Town Council took over the building from Anglesey Council in 2017 with the aim of creating a “family-friendly zone.”

Commenting on the new skate park, Holyhead Mayor Keith Thomas said: “It’s great to see the new skatepark being completed. It was what our young people wanted to see us carry out, as the first part of bringing our park back to life.

“I hope everyone is happy with how it has turned out. We can now focus on further developments in the park.”
