MUSIC legend Burt Bacharach will be bringing some of the greatest pop songs ever written to Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Bandstand this Summer.

The 90-year-old American singer/songwriter who penned hits including Don’t Make Me Over, Walk on By, I Say a Little Prayer, Wishin’ and Hopin’ and Always Something There to Remind Me will open the Summer Nights festival on July 26.

Other acts confirmed, include punk Goddess Patti Smith, indie favourites Teenage Fanclub and Suede, 1980s legends The Human League and Bloc Party.

American rockers the National will play two dates on August 6 and 7, while Hue and Cry will close the festival on August 10.

Now in its sixth year, the festival runs from July 26 to August 10, excluding Sundays, and scooped the Unesco City of Music Best Live Event at the Scottish Music Awards, 2017.

Glasgow Times:

Speaking from his American base, Burt Bacharach said he would hold off playing Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on my Head until the end of the gig “so as not to tempt fate as I hear it rains a lot in your beautiful green city.”

Pat Kane, Hue and Cry, said: “One of my first ever singing gigs was at the Kelvingrove Bandstand - trying to save the world in some shape or form, as I remember… It has become one of Glasgow’s iconic venues, and we are so proud to be playing it. We expect tears, dancing, joyous laughter - and blazing summer sunshine. Guaranteed of course!”

Mark Mackie, director of Regular Music said earlier: “We are delighted to have such an incredible array of talent, both home-born and international, including some true music legends all performing at Summer Nights this year.

“Kelvingrove Bandstand has such a fantastic atmosphere and the feedback we have had from both artists and audiences is that they have a great time being there”.

Councillor David McDonald, Chair of Glasgow Life said: “It’s great to see such an amazing line up of current talent joining music legends in wanting to come and experience this unique venue and play for the world-famous Glasgow audience. These concerts will be must-see events this Summer and an experience for performers and fans that will never be forgotten.”
