Traffic experts have warned that commuters could face cold and wet weather on their drive home on Wednesday.

A yellow weather warning for cold weather is set to come into place across much of Scotland, including Glasgow, bringing with it plummeting temperatures.

The advice, which begins at 6pm on Wednesday and is expected to last until 11am on Thursday, could see wintry showers come in across the west of Scotland.

The Met Office tweeted: "Getting home this evening shouldn't be challenging from a weather point of view... except perhaps in parts of western Scotland, where sleet and snow showers are likely."

After waking up to a thick layer of ice, freezing fog and a dusting of snow in some parts of Glasgow, milder conditions spread across the city.

However, so far heavy traffic has been confined to major routes.

Traffic Scotland have already warned of a build up of vehicles on the M8 between J16 Craighall and J19 Anderston in both directions.

On the railways delays had been caused by a fault at Bellgrove station in Glasgow, with issues persisting for around two hours.

However, these problems have now been fixed by engineers.
