A man is in hospital in a serious condition after being struck by a car in Moodiesburn, in what police are describing as a hit-and-run.

Shortly after midnight on Friday, 25 January, a 23-year-old man was crossing Stoneyetts Road when police say he was hit by a silver Ford Fiesta.

Following the incident the driver of the car in question failed to stop.

Emergency services attended and the man was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he remains in a serious condition.

Police are currently looking to trace the Ford Fiesta, and a grey Vauxhall Corsa, both of which were seen driving on Central Way, Cumbernauld around the time of incident.

They then travelled along the A8011, and onto the M80, M73, A80 and several other roads in the Moodiesburn and Chryston area.

The road was closed for several hours as police carried out enquiries.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Anyone with who may have information involving the incident, Ford Fiesta or Vauxhall Corsa, contact Motherwell Road Policing Unit on 101, quoting incident number 0045."

Police have also requested that anyone with dash cam footage of the area between the times of 12.08am and 12.31am to come forward, or contact Crimstoppers on 0800 555 111.
