THE Scottish Secretary has been asked to step in to end delays to the Glasgow Airport rail link project.

Johann Lamont, Glasgow Labour MSP, has written to David Mundell to seek an intervention with the Scottish Government.

The project has hit a snag with officials waiting for a report into the impact on other rail services and capacity at Glasgow Central Station.

Ms Lamont said: “The campaign for a rail link for our city airport has gone on long enough, the business case has been made, cross party support has been achieved and the connectively improvement and investment would give Glasgow a real boost.

“The City Deal is part funded by the UK Government, so I urge David Mundell to look at what can be done from his side to get this project moving. A rail link would be a real boost, not just to Glasgow, but also to the wider Scottish economy.”

A report from Transport Scotland said services from Ayrshire and Paisley to Glasgow would be affected if more trains were put on between Central and a new station at the Airport.
